No one can accuse popular Melbourne comedian Dave O’Neil of not suffering for his art, or a laugh for that matter.
Early in 2010, Dave shattered his left leg in 22 places leg during a breakfast radio stunt in which he jumped his co-host, Ian Dicko Dickson, on a bmx bike. A week in hospital, a month of rehab and Dave was forced to pull out of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Getting sacked from his PR job more than twenty years ago gave the former Mitcham boy the impetus to finally pursue his dream of being paid to be funny. Radio beckoned with his first breakfast gig at Melbourne’s cult community station 3RRR where he hooked up with Kate Langbroek. It wasn’t long before the commercial stations came knocking and Dave joined Langbroek and Dave Hughes as Melbourne’s breakfast team when the Nova network was launched in 2001.
He was also working extensively as a comedy writer for many TV shows including The Eric Bana Show and went on to appear with Bana in the Aussie feature film The Nugget. Dave appeared on the ABC’s Spicks and Specks more times than any other guest. Since finishing up on breakfast radio Dave has performed his sell out comedy festival shows and we look forward to seeing him perform in Echuca/Moama.
